I am currently a college student who is interested in getting into short term swing trading. I am about half way through a stack of books and i am also taking a few classes. I work over the summer but don’t currently have a job. However i have $10,000 riskable dollars on hand. I wanted to open up an etrade account but it says you need an employer. Is their a site like etrade with all the same tools that doesn’t require to have an employer? If i put down my last employer can i get into trouble?

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) — Unlike the broader Nasdaq Composite, the Nasdaq 100 index , probably best known for the futures contract and exchange-traded fund that track it, is set to close 2011 with a gain, as it’s up 3% this year through Friday morning. The best Nasdaq 100 gainers have been Intuitive Surgical , up 81.4%, and Alexion Pharmaceuticals and Hansen Natural , which have both sported gains of close to 77%. Apple , which is the largest Nasdaq 100 component and represents about 15% of the index, has gained 25.7% in 2011.

While Apple’s iPad dominated the tablet market in 2011, there are signs the competition is heating up for 2012.
